A new automatic line for the sorting and treatment of glass waste was launched at packaging glass manufacturer Vetropack Nemsova on 11 December 2008. The line can process 120,000 tons of cullet a year, which will increase the recycling rate of packaging glass in Slovakia. Vetropack Nemsova produces around 200 types of glass packaging. “The line is unique, as it can sort scrap glass with the help of optical equipment according to color, it can eliminate impurities and sort large quantities of glass; so far this has been done mainly manually,” said company technologist Jan Kebisek. The company“s director said that Vetropack Nemsova backs the government“s environmental policy. “We have not received any formal reaction from the Environment Ministry to our invitation, and given the context and the significance for Slovakia, we were perplexed,” said company representative Gegor Gabel. The company reported turnover of SKK 1.62 billion in 2007. The Slovak glass company sold 455 million items and exported 38% of its output in 2007. Vetropack Nemsova employed 366 people at the end of the year.
