A second bidder has emerged for Verrerie du Languedoc, the French manufacturer of glass bottles owned by Swiss food giant Nestle. The new offer comes from Georges Sabate, a co-founder and former sales and marketing manager at the glassworks. Mr Sabate is supported by GMS, the US investment fund. No precise details of the offer are known, although it has been welcomed by Nestle. The plans were presented during an extraordinary meeting of the works council, after which Mr Sabate met trade union representatives. According to trade union CGT, the new bidder is prepared to invest EUR 8 million and to renovate the second furnace with the aim of producing wine bottles. An offer has already been received from French glass and building materials giant Saint-Gobain.
