16 April 1998: Sheet glass manufacturer Vegla Vereinigte Glaswerke GmbH of Germany, part of the French Saint-Gobain group, lifted turnover by 2% to DM 421.3 million in 1997. The company produces some 45 million sq. m. of float glass, thermal insulation glass, plate glass and dark glass annually. According to chairman Franz J. King, further cost reductions are necessary. At present, 1,240 people are employed at the company“s plants in the German cities of Herzogenrath, Stolberg, Cologne-Porz and Mannheim.
