The Poltava Medical Glass Factory, a specialist in the production of medicinal ampoules and vials, increased output by UAK 10.941 million or 27.3% to UAK 51.056 million in 2002, compared with 2001 according to Nadiya Sydenko, the head of the department of economic research at the factory. The factory produced 1.1 billion ampoules, 44.4 million vials, and 12.5 million test tubes in 2002. Sydenko attributed the rise in output to new ampoule lines bought from Modern Mechanic of France and OCMI of Italy, modernization of the factory“s existing Compact 5000 line, and gaining the ISO quality certificate, which enabled the factory to enter new markets. The factory is now aiming to strengthen its foothold in the Armenian, Uzbek, Polish, Romanian, and Indian markets. The Poltava Medical Glass Factory currently exports about 29% of its products to Russia, Kazakhstan, Estonia, Latvia, Georgia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. It sells the remainder of its products to Ukrainian pharmaceutical plants, mainly the Darnytsia and Farmak pharmaceutical plants. The factory increased production by UAK 13.4 million or 50% to UAK 40.1 million in 2001, compared to year 2000. The factory ended year 2001 with UAK 8.185 million in net profits.
