UAE glass bottle manufacturer Al-Tajir Glass Industries will invest a total of 550 million AED (USD 149.7 mln/ EUR 139.6 million) to expand its factory in Jebel Ali in Dubai and increase output, the company told a news conference on 17 February 2003. With the installation of the third production line in the first phase at a cost of AED 100 million, (USD 27.2 mln/ EUR 25.4 million) plant capacity will increase to 2.18 million bottles per day and overall glass melting capacity to 540 metric tonnes per day. The third production line, to be commissioned on 15 July 2003, will also enhance the plant“s capability to produce bottle sizes from 200 ML to 2 Ltr. capacity. In the second phase of the expansion, Altajir Glass will invest AED 450 million (USD 122.5 million/ EUR 114.3 million) to double the capacity of the plant, thus becoming the region“s largest glass bottle manufacturer. According to Amer Altajir the plant is rated one of the world“s most technologically advanced having been equipped by world leader in glass technology, Owens Illinois -. “We“re very proud that our quality glass bottles have gained the confidence of so many of the world“s most reputable beverage companies. The improved capacity will allow us to take an increased share of this very competitive global market. Overall, it just goes to show that Dubai can be a major player on the international industrial map.” One of the unique selling points of Altajir Glass bottles is their low weight: due to the plant“s advanced “narrow neck press and blow“ technology, the finished product is typically 20% lighter than that of its competitors. This offers cost benefits all the way through to the consumer, as bottled beverages can be delivered at lower cost. Commenting on the advanced technology used by Altajir Glass, General Manager, Yogesh Bakhshi said that the plant was fully ISO 9001 and 14001 compliant. ” We are committed to the highest quality standards throughout the production process. We have invested in the latest quality control equipment to automatically detect & eliminate flaws in both moulds and on-the-line production. This allows us to effect instantaneous corrections in real time. Whilst every aspect of our production process is computer controlled we also employ highly qualified technical personnel to ensure adherence to international standards. It is this leading edge, along with tremendous commitment, drive and support of our principals, the Altajir Group, which has seen us accredited by several world bodies like EFSIS for HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), the leading quality assurance system for food and packaging safety.” The Altajir team“s commitment to quality has gained Altajir Glass the trust of its customers around the globe and is shown by the advance orders guaranteeing 5 years continuous production.
