14 May 1998: The world of ceramics celebrated a significant milestone during The American Ceramic Society“s 100th Annual Meeting & Exposition, held 3-6 May 1998, at the Dr. Albert B. Sabin Convention Center in Cincinnati, Ohio (US). The meeting and exposition, the largest ceramics event in the US, served as the official kickoff to the Centennial Anniversary celebration of The American Ceramic Society (ACerS). To help commemorate the ACerS Centennial, organizations from around the world that are involved in the ceramics industry were to participate in a special luncheon on 4 May. An international delegation representing various ceramics and related societies from approximately 25 countries were to attend the event for the official observance of the ACerS Centennial. ACerS displayed three special exhibits at the convention centre as well as conducting various demonstrations related to ceramic technology for the Centennial celebration. With an international audience expected of more than 4,000 people in the ceramics and related materials industries, the ACerS 100th Annual Meeting & Exposition was the Society“s largest technical programme ever. More than 1,600 technical papers were to be presented on how ceramics are used in areas including medicine, the environment, aerospace, fibre optics, automobiles and electronics. Held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting, the Annual Exposition hosted more than 200 international and domestic companies in the ceramics and related materials industry, which displayed a wide range of products, including raw materials/minerals, furnaces, processing equipment, ceramic components, glass and optical products, glazes, manufacturing equipment, analytical instruments and scientific publishers.
