India“s Tata Chemicals Ltd. (TCL), manufacturing over 0.8 million tonnes of urea annually at its Babrala plant, reported a 24.64% drop in net profit to Rs 1.32 billion in the first half of 1995-1996 as against Rs 1.7515 billion in the corresponding period of 1994-1995. TCL plans to increase its soda ash capacity to 1 million tonnes/year over the next 12 months. The company is also planning a Rs 4.55 billion phased modernisation of its Mithapur plant. TCL plans to utilise fly ash and solids in the effluents to improve cement production efficiency.
