15 October 1998: Japan“s alcoholic beverage maker Suntory introduced a new beer glass that helps prevent the head (foam) from vanishing. The company has developed a special process to prevent the froth from coming into contact with the metallic substances in the glass, which increase the flow of the froth and make it disappear. Furthermore, the angle of the glass and rounded bottom also help to maintain the head to seal in the flavour of the beer. Suntory has commissioned 100,000 such glasses annually from a glassmaker and will sell it to restaurants and pubs to reinforce the company“s sales point for one of its main beverage lines, “Suntory Malt,” which is promoted as “keeping good head”.
