Germany“s Steinert Industries GmbH plans to build a glass works at a cost of EUR 236 million in Aktobe, Kazakhstan, by 2007, it was reported. The complex will consist of a EUR 171 million factory to produce polished flat glass and a EUR 50 million glass treatment plant. Insurance and other costs will add up to EUR 6 million. The complex, on a 24.3-hectare site, will be able to produce 21.7 million square meters of flat glass per year. It will also be able to produce laminated glass, autoglass, safety glass and glass for the furniture industry. More than 2,000 jobs will result from the project.
