27 November 1997: The US firm Solutia Inc., formerly Monsanto“s chemicals division, has decided to build an extrusion plant for laminated glass PVB interlayers. After giving up production in Japan when it was still a chemicals division of Monsanto, the company had been concentrating on production in the West. Solutia will thus hope to boost sales of its Saflex PVB sheet in Asia, where demand is strong, especially in the automotive and construction sectors. According to Solutia Vice President J. G. Ferguson, who is in charge of the Saflex product line, a finishing plant will come onstream immediately in Singapore and the next strategy is to start film extrusion in Asia. Sales of the film are growing at a rate of 10% in Asia, he added.
