Production of soda ash fell by 17% in August 2006 compared to August 2005 to 61,200 tons (100%, without potash), as disclosed by a source in the Cherkasy state scientific and research institute of technical and economic information in the chemical industry. In August 2006, OJSC Crimean soda plant reduced soda ash production by 12% to 53,500 tons compared to the same period in 2005, at the same time, OJSC Lysychanska Soda reduced soda ash production by 40% to 7,700 tons. In January-August, soda ash production remained at the level of January-August 2005, or at 613,000 tons. As reported in July 2006, production of soda ash fell by 5% to 74,500 tons compared to July 2005. In 2005, soda ash production rose by 22% compared to 2004, to 940,700 tons.
