5 February 1998: The chairman of the Czech Republic“s Anti-Monopoly Office (UOHS), Stanislav Belehradek, decreased the fine of glass manufacturer Sklarny Kavalier to 30,000 crowns, according to a UOHS spokesman. UOHS issued the fine of Kc 100,000 last September, when Kavalier closed a contract with Kvintex Praha that violated the law for protecting economic competition. The contract for the sale of glass kitchenware contained an obligation to sell this material to other market subjects with a discount of up to 8%. The law, however, does not allow agreements between competitors containing directly or indirectly determined prices, Skoumal said. Belehradek lowered the fine, claiming the contract orders were supplied for only Kc 4.249 million.
