Shiba R&D Co, the Japanese manufacturer of glass, silicone and ceramics processing machinery, plans to open a plant at Kurihama Techno-Park in Yokosuka, Kanagawa prefecture, eastern Japan, in which it will invest JPY 896 million (USD 8.12 million/EUR 6.6 million), it was reported on 13 September 2005. On 12 September 2005 Shiba R&D applied for fiscal support under the so-called Invest Kanagawa, a Kanagawa industrial incentive programme. The prefecture is expected to grant a maximum of JPY 90 million (USD 816,100/EUR 663,390) for the construction of the plant. Shiba R&D began life in July 1979 in Hayama, Kanagawa prefecture, where it is headquartered today, to sell processing machines. The company“s principal customers include Asahi Fine Materials Co, Canon Inc, Fujikura Ltd, Kyocera Corp, Mitsubishi Materials Corp, Nippon Electric Glass Co, Shin-Etsu Chemical Co, Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd, Toshiba Ceramics Co and Toyo Glass Co. According to its website, the company has a registered capital of JPY 16.5 million (USD 149,620/EUR 121,620 ) and currently operates one factory in Yokosuka.
