Schott Pharmaceutical Packaging has begun building a new plant in Suzhou, China to make ampoules and vials for use by the domestic pharmaceutical industry. The new factory will be integrated into the existing Schott Glass Technology Company set up in Suzhou in 2002. The company expects to begin production in July 2006 with approximately 50 new employees. The facility will use “Schott Type 1” borosilicate glass, a type of high quality tubing that complies with international standards (USP, EP, and JP). Demand for this type of glass has increased strongly in China in recent years. The new plant will make the complete range of ampoules and vials that the Chinese market currently demands. According to Schott Pharmaceutical Packaging, all of these products will conform to the highest international requirements for glass pharmaceutical primary packaging. The plant will be built in accordance with the standard concept followed by Schott Pharmaceutical Packaging production sites around the world. It will be equipped with state of the art production equipment and visual inspection systems, operate in a clean room environment and comply with the currently valid good manufacturing practices (GMP).
