Schott Glass India Pvt. Ltd., a unit of Germany“s Schott AG, is doubling its glass tubing division at Baroda in Gujarat to meet rising demand from the Indian and foreign pharmaceutical packaging industry, said the chairman of the parent company on 30 August 2005. “We are installing a new melting tank (furnace) in India,” said Udo Ungeheuer, chairman of Schott Glas AG. He said the investment of INR 400 million (USD 1 = INR 44.04) would double production capacity to 14,000 metric tons and allow it to produce Fiolax, a premium brand of special glass tubing, to meet domestic and export demand from the pharmaceutical industry, including in the USA. In the fiscal year ended 30 September 2004, Schott earned total revenue of INR 935 million from India. Ungeheuer said that Schott is at present talking to Indian home appliances manufacturers about introducing Ceran, its glass ceramic cooktop panels. He said sales of the product were likely to start from 2006.
