Australian auto-mirror exporter Schefenacker Vision Systems is planning a A$ 50 million expansion at its Lonsdale plant. The large-scale expansion is aimed at catering for additional sales of A$ 35 million a year by 2006. With projected turnover expected to rise from A$ 130 million to A$ 220 million in five years, 200 more jobs are expected to be created, taking the workforce to 950. Managing director Brian Freeborn said work on the manufacturing plant would start next year. The additional production would produce mirror actuators that would supply sister companies of German parent company Schefenacker International. Freeborn said the company expects to almost double the size of its current business with an average annual growth of 12% during the next five years. Schefenacker, which purchased Britax Rainsford last year, is the world“s largest automotive mirror supplier, with about 30% of the total market. The Lonsdale plant would also step up production of truck mirrors for the US market, as well as entering the after-market for large trailer tow mirrors.
