South Korea“s Samsung Electronics Co. ranked first in sales of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels for a fifth consecutive year in 2006, a report showed 29 January 2007. According to the report by DisplaySearch, Samsung Electronics sold USD 14.85 billion worth of LCD panels in 2006, up 22% from 2005. LG.Philips LCD Co. came second by selling USD 11.19 billion worth of products, followed by Taiwan“s AUO with sales of USD 9.15 billion. LG Philips LCD is a joint venture between South Korea“s LG Electronics Inc. and Royal Philips Electronics NV of the Netherlands. South Korean firms outpaced their Taiwanese competitors in 2006 by producing LCDs worth USD 26.04 billion, almost 50% of the total production of USD 56.03 billion, the report showed.
