The cost of building and running the proposed factory is estimated at USD 600 million, and will focus on the production of glass for TFT-LCD displays. It is expected that the factory will be built in an area called Wuxi, which is an industrial zone about 120 km west of Shanghai. Samsung Corning Precision Materials Co Ltd is not going to be an extension of Samsung and the company has plans to expand activities. Currently, a Korean factory has been producing glass Corning Lotus Glass for OLED-screens, and glass substrates alternative to other companies that use OLED. Lotus Glass is created to withstand high temperatures and strong impacts. Gorilla Glass, which is a precursor of Lotus Glass, is still widely used in the manufacture of various devices. Apple has used this glass on the iPhone 4 and 4S, and is likely to equip them on their new tablet models later this year.
