Employees at the Saint-Gobain glass packaging factory at Vauxrot (Aisne, northern France) staged a 24-hour strike on 9 October 2006 as part of protests against a planned restructuring that will involve 118 job cuts. Nearly 200 indirect jobs could also be affected, according to union CGT. A meeting of the works council has been scheduled for 19 October 2006. On 11 October 2006, it was reported in daily La Tribune that Saint-Gobain has decided to sell specialty bottles unit Desjonqueres, estimated to be worth EUR 600 million, but will not exit the glass packaging sector.
