After 13 months in the job, Christian Streiff is stepping down as Chief Operating Officer of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain, the French building materials leader confirmed on 3 May 2005. At a meeting on the same date, the Board of Directors followed the recommendation of Chairman and CEO Jean-Louis Beffa by unanimously naming Pierre-Andr de Chalendar to take over from Streiff as COO. In his twenty-six years of service within the Group, Christian Streiff has held nine positions, including six executive management functions in Germany, France and Italy, notably as Chief Executive Officer of Saint-Gobain Emballage and Chairman of Pont–Mousson S.A. From 2002 to 2003, he was President of Saint-Gobain“s Abrasives and Ceramics divisions. He took on the role of Chief Operating Officer on 1 April 2004. Pierre-Andr de Chalendar, 47, joined the Group in 1989 as Vice-President, Corporate Planning. He was then Head of the Abrasives Division, Europe from 1992 to 1996, and President of the Abrasives Division from 1996 to 2000. From 2000 to 2002, he was the Company“s General Delegate to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, as well as President-Delegate of the Building Distribution Division for the United Kingdom and the United States. Since 2003, he has been Senior Vice-President of the Company and President of the Building Distribution Sector. In addition to the appointment of Pierre-Andr de Chalendar, Philippe Crouzet, Senior Vice-President, Finance, has been appointed Senior Vice-President in charge of Building Distribution, while Benot Bazin, President of Abrasive operations for North America and Head of the Abrasives Division“s Bonded Grinding Wheels business, has been appointed Chief Financial Officer.
