French glass and building materials giant Saint-Gobain, launched its first glass wool factory in Russia on 16 January 2004. The EUR 35 million plant, which has an annual production capacity of 1.5 million cubic metres, is located in Egorevsk, around 100 km from Moscow. The plant was acquired by the group“s insulation materials division, Saint-Gobain Isover, in October 2002 and began operating a year later, with a workforce of 118. SGI has a 40% share of the Russian market for glass-wool-based insulation materials. The director of Saint-Gobain“s Russian operations, Daniel Meroc, said the group has several projects in Russia, some of which could be launched in 2004.
