Unions at the Saint-Gobain Cristalera plant in Avils, northern Spain, told workers on 18 March 2008 that they would ask for all the information about the accident which has put the float furnace out of action. At three meetings, workers“ representatives gave out a message of continuity: “up until now all the most important decisions, such as repairing the furnace, have been spot on”, assured Jos Mara Lombarda, secretary-general of the branch of Comisiones Obreras. Nevertheless, unions committed themselves to asking for full disclosure on the causes of the escape of molten glass, as well as on the planning of the furnace rebuild and how this will affect the organization.
