Ritec: Clearshield used at the London Savoy

The centre piece of the Beaufort Bar of the Savoy Hotel in London, UK, is a glass panel created by Daedalian Glass, protected by Ritec’s ClearShield System.

The Savoy Hotel, one of London’s best known landmarks, reopened in October 2010 after a major GBP 220 million refit. The newly created Beaufort Bar, theatrically decorated in an Art Deco design of jet-black and burnished gold, plays host to live entertainment, exclusive champagne and cocktails.
At the centre piece of the bar is a stunning glass panel featuring an intricate vine pattern created by Daedalian Glass. Crafted from a pane of annealed glass laminated to a toughened backing panel, the 3000mm x 675mm design took the Daedalian team a month to complete, working flat out to meet the tight deadline. In places, the outer pane was stripped back by 8mm, to provide the necessary relief to the vine pattern.
“We have worked with the main contractor on several prestigious projects,” explains director Chris Walmsley; “but this really tested our team. I’m pleased to say that we were able to complete the panel design, apply the Ritec ClearShield System and ship it to site where it was installed safely in prime position, thankfully without even chipping an edge.”
