Riou, based at Boulleville, in northern France, has acquired two window insulating glass production sites from Pilkington, at Herbiers in the Vendee department and at Vendin-le-Vieil in the Pas-de-Calais. It is the third acquisition by Riou in a year. The French company now has 350 employees at six sites. It is pursuing a strategy of expansion in France and possibly further afield through acquisitions. The acquisition of the Montady glass works in the Herault department is regarded as a step towards the Spanish market, while the Pas-de-Calais site previously owned by Pilkington is seen as a launch pad for the UK and the Benelux countries. The group has annual production of 30,000 tonnes.
