A group of leading polysulfide sealant producers have launched QPS (R), a quality seal for insulating glass sealants. IG sealants must possess a number of characteristics to be considered quality products and most of these are difficult to judge on sight, e.g. non-toxicity, durability, endurance of extreme climatic conditions, and compliance with laws in different countries. In a competitive, global market, some sealant producers may be tempted to cut corners on quality. The QPS (R) logo has been created to provide users with a guarantee on the quality of polysulfide sealants, enhancing confidence in the long term properties of the product. Sealants bearing the quality logo fully satisfy the following requirements: they are non-toxic, environmentally sound and do not contain solvents or heavy metals such as mercury and lead; they are based on raw materials produced by ISO 9001 certified suppliers with at least twenty years of experience on the field; they can be used on any type of equipment (sealing robots or manual pumps) and have excellent processing characteristics; once properly applied on the insulating glass unit they are compatible with any weather and environmental condition with outstanding long-term durability and persistent gas tightness; they are used on the five continents; they comply with all the national standards for quality of insulating glass of the countries in which they are used including the new European standard EN-1279 (CE marking for insulating glass); they are produced by companies which are ISO 9001 certified and which are routinely inspected by at least two institutes responsible for controlling the quality of insulating glass; they are produced by companies with at least 25 years of experience in the field. More information on the QPS logo is available on the qpspolysulfide.com website.
