Proletar, the main Ukrainian producer of flat glass based in Lysychansk, Luhansk region, closed its No. 4 glass-melting furnace for reconstruction on 15 March 2005, a company spokesman said. The dismantling of the old furnace was set to take ten days while 66 days have been allocated for construction and operations to prepare the furnace for start-up. The reconstruction project was planned by the Gipro-steklo organization (Saint Petersburg, Russia). Proletar intends to invest a total of UAH 25 million in upgrading the production of flat glass in shop No. 4. The output capacity of the No. 4 furnace is 180 tons of glass a day although this is set to increase with the furnace rebuild. In all, the enterprise has two shops for the production of flat glass (No. 3 and No. 4), a shop for the production of furniture glass and mirrors, and auxiliary shops.
