The Ukraine“s largest flat glass manufacturer, the Proletar factory (Lysychansk, Luhansk region), launched operation of an upgraded float glass line on 4 July 2005. The UAH 22.4 million rebuilding of the workshop took 100 days and was drafted by the Giprosteklo Institute (St. Petersburg, Russia). The mainly imported refractory materials used in the project will extend the operating life of the furnaces. The production line comprises a glass-melting furnace, float-glass forming chamber, calcining furnace, a glass-cutting system and packaging line. The production capacity is 350 tons per day. In December 2004, the Ukraine Antimonopoly Committee gave Proletar permission to acquire some of the units of the Lysychansk glass factory.
