22 July 1999: British glassmaker Pilkington Plc said it had started production at a new vehicle glass plant in Poland, aimed at serving central Europe“s growing auto industry. It said the UK 25 million pound (US$ 38.83 million) plant, to be integrated with Pilkington“s existing float glass plant at Sandomerz in southern Poland, would be in full production by the end of 1999. Vehicle manufacture in Poland has grown by more than 10% a year since 1995, when Pilkington built the first plant as a joint venture, the company added.
