Pilkington is reportedly planning investments at its Lahti, Finland plant in 2011 including the building of a new furnace and the installation of new combustion technology. The cost of the investment is EUR 15-20 million. No final decisions on investments have yet been made. The Lahti plant has been able to operate within emissions restrictions. According to the company, limits have been exceeded slightly, but the plant has been able to purchase more emission allowances from other company plants. Half of the plant“s output comes from recycled glass although the availability of recovered glass for remelting is a problem.
