16 September 1998: According to a recent press report, three high-profile directors have been recruited to the board of the UK glassmaker Pilkington, in an effort to revive the fortunes of the company. Although no specific dates were given, the report said that Bill Harrison, head of corporate advisory at Deutsche Bank, Oliver Stocken, the outgoing finance director of Barclays, and Jim Leng, chief executive of Laporte, the specialty chemicals company, are expected to join Pilkington as non-executive directors in the near future. The trio will replace Sir Michael Quinlan and John Macomber.
