10 December 1998: The UK“s Pilkington Automotive has won a prestigious contract to supply windscreens for Ford“s new Lincoln LS – the replacement model for the Scorpio. The new American-made Lincoln, a mid-sized luxury saloon that will rival BMW and Mercedes, is based on the same platform being utilised for the latest Jaguar S type. The deal with Pilkington is the first windscreen contract to be outsourced by Ford in North America. “The new model required a complex, deeply curved windscreen design and Pilkington was the ideal company to develop this for Ford. Our advanced R&D programme allows us to predict the feasibility of making the shapes conceived by designers, forecast any optical distortion related to the shape and determine the most cost-effective manufacturing process,” said Doug Nouse, customer development director for Pilkington.
