Philips Electronics Japan Ltd. will start selling a range of crystal encrusted headphones and USB memory devices in August 2007. The four headphones and four USB memory sticks were jointly developed with Swarovski AG and will be sold at 10 locations in Japan, including at Swarovski stores. The products were developed with crystal as an integral part of the design; they do not look like existing products that have simply been decorated with crystals. The companies focused on developing the best possible sound quality for the headphones and data protection capabilities for the memory devices. The headphones will be priced from JPY 12,600 to JPY 23,100, and the USB memory sticks, all 1GB models, will cost JPY 27,300. Sales will be targeted at women aged 25-40 but the new items will also be promoted to men buying gifts for wives and girlfriends.
