The National Glass Association (NGA) has expanded its re-certification opportunities for NGA-certified autoglass technicians. Effective 1 November 2005, current or expired NGA-certified autoglass technicians who wish to renew their certification may do so by completing 10 certification credit-hours over a three year period. Technicians may earn credits by participating in educational classes or events on adhesives, tools, safety, installation methods and glass-cutting procedures. By signing and submitting a simple, one-page form, the re-certifying technician and shop owner or manager must both verify that the technician has completed 10 certification credit-hours in the past three years. All credits are subject to NGA approval. Technicians who re-certify will receive a “Windshield Wiz” hat in recognition of their accomplishment. For each technician who re-certifies, NGA member shop owners will receive a corresponding entry into a drawing to win a NASCAR cruise. To be eligible for the cruise contest, NGA must receive signed technician re-certification forms by 10 May 2006. The winner will be announced at the 2006 National Auto Glass Conference & EXPO, to be held 17-19 May 2006, in Tucson, Arizona. “NGA believes this new program will result in significantly more shop owners insisting that their certified installers maintain their certification either through testing or continuing education, which is good news for everyone, including auto glass consumers,” stated NGA President and CEO Phil James. The fee for re-certifying through continuing education is USD 99.00 for NGA members and USD 199.00 for non-members. The fee to re-certify via testing remains the same at USD 169.95 for NGA members and USD 269.95 for NGA non-members. More information on the new program is available at the NGA website.
