2 April 1998: Morton International Inc. recently announced that the Commission of the European Communities has imposed a provisional 9.1% anti-dumping duty on the company“s polysulfide polymer products, which are manufactured in the United States and distributed in Europe through offices in Coventry, UK and Mannheim, Germany. “We are very concerned that this duty will result in higher raw material costs, creating a negative impact on our industry,” said Dr. Jurgen Faesel of Chemetall, a major producer of glass sealants. The interim measure was put into effect on 19 March 1998, and is said to be only temporary. A final decision is expected to be made by the Commission of the European Communities within six months. Morton is an international supplier of polysulfide polymers, which are used in the production of various sealants including insulating glass sealants.
