19 February 1998: The Hungarian architectural glass factory Miskolci Kft (Miskolci Epiteszeti Uveggyar) expects to generate sales of Ft 760 million in 1998, up from Ft 584 million last year, said commercial director Lajos T. Varga. Following losses of Ft 66 million in 1997, the company seeks to invest foreign capital into hardened glass and enlarged transparency glass manufacturing. Meanwhile, talks are under way with German and Italian investors, Varga said. The company also said it is currently looking for new markets in the Balkan region, though it also plans to continue serving its West European customers. Miskolci, acquired by Hungarian investors at the end of 1996, now has an annual capacity of 1.2 million square metres of rolled glass, 70% of which is exported, according to managing director Laszlo Simon. It has Ft 200 million registered capital, and is the only one in the region to produce U-profiled glass, a brand used for facades of factory buildings and halls. Rolled patterned ornamental glass and rolled glass for architectural purposes account for 70% of the company“s total production, said the company. The Miskolc-based factory also produces glass for the furniture industry, and it is a contractor of refrigerator maker Elektrolux.
