At the 2012 International Builders Show (IBS), visitors had the possibility of seeing Kolbe’s hurricane impact resistant products, tested extensively to meet or exceed the strict building codes of the coastal regions.
Kolbe’s hurricane impact resistant products were exhibited at the 2012 International Builders Show (IBS), offering impact certified casement, awning, double hung, transom, segment head and half-circle top windows, plus outswing entrance doors and lift and slide doors. All feature the strength and durability to withstand hurricane force winds and flying debris.
Kolbe’s K-Force® impact products are constructed without brackets, visible rods or extra locks, resulting in traditional styling, clean design and easy operation. Tested extensively to meet or exceed the strict building codes of the coastal regions, K-Force window and door units are available in aluminium clad Ultra Series, all-wood Heritage Series and Windquest® Series vinyl products.
Windquest products meet requirements of the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) and received notice of acceptance in compliance with Miami-Dade County codes, some of the most stringent requirements by any jurisdiction. These products use impact laminated double pane insulating glass as standard. The glass is designed to stay intact if it is broken, which has the added benefits of providing increased security and quieter interiors.
Kolbe’s Ultra Series Sterling double hung windows with K-Force impact performance upgrades also have achieved HVHZ certification in the state of Florida, where wind speeds can exceed 140 miles per hour. In addition, several Ultra Series products have been certified to meet impact testing criteria for large missile impact Level D and Wind Zone 4 testing standards (IPD4). For example: Sterling double hungs, Majesta® double hung windows, and TerraSpan® lift and slide doors up to 10 feet tall.
Kolbe’s Ultra Series products have exteriors clad in low-maintenance, extruded aluminium containing recycled content. The outer, metal surfaces may be finished in environmentally friendly, durable coatings using a broad palette of colours. For the interior, a range of sustainably harvested wood species can be selected, such as those certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Kolbe products’ environmental attributes also support projects pursuing green goals including U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Rating System™, Green Globes™ and ENERGY STAR®.
