International Institute of Research in Glass: 2nd International Symposium on Architectural Glass

The International Institute of Research in Glass (IIRG), based at the National Glass Centre at the University of Sunderland, north-east England, has organized a symposium – entitled ‘Working with light as a means of interaction between space and mind’ – to take place Thursday 17 and Friday 18 May 2012, and will have an emphasis on how flat glass is used three dimensionally in space and as a creative means of expression.

The IIRG’s previous one-day symposium on ‘The Extended Use of Glass in Architecture’ with the aim of encouraging debate and research in the UK generated a high level of participation and interest.
This year’s symposium – entitled ‘Working with light as a means of interaction between space and mind’ – will take place Thursday 17 and Friday 18 May 2012, and will have an emphasis on how flat glass is used three dimensionally in space and as a creative means of expression. This will explore both the theoretical and practical aspects of this process: idea exploration, design development, use of new technologies, the possibilities of technical restrictions and the multi-disciplinary approach prevalent in many projects.
The symposium will take the form of traditional lectures, panel discussions, workshops demonstrations and informal networking opportunities. Speakers include Marian Karel and Dana Zamecnikova.
The symposium is organized by the International Institute of Research in Glass (IIRG), based at the National Glass Centre at the University of Sunderland, north-east England.
Booking is essential. Conference fees are GBP 55 for one day or GBP 90 for two days if booking before 1 May 2012.
