As part of its corporate business expansion programme, ICI Pakistan has announced an investment of Rs 555 million (US$ 9.75 million) in capacity expansion and modernisation of its soda ash plant at Khewra. The project, to be commissioned by the end of 2001, will raise capacity at the plant to 225,000 tonnes a year. In mid-November 2000, ICI Pakistan and Singapore-based ABB Industry signed an agreement for the setting up of a Distributed Control System (DCS) at the soda ash plant at a cost of Rs 93 million. Under the agreement, ABB will undertake the basic design of the system and supply all DCS equipment, along with other high-technology equipment.
