1 October 1998: South Korea“s largest flat glass producer, Han Glass group, announced that it has agreed to extend its strategic alliance with Saint-Gobain, the French glass company, for the production of flat glass. Under the extended partnership, the French company will purchase new shares and outstanding shares of Hankuk Glass Ind., a flat glass affiliate of Han Glass group, to increase their combined stake in Hankuk Glass Ind. up to 50%, a spokesman for Han Glass said. Han Glass group currently holds slightly under 20% equity holdings. The partnership between Han Glass and Saint-Gobain dates back to 1983, when the French company licensed Han Glass to use its glass fibre technology. The two companies have three joint ventures; two in Korea and one in Poland.
