Guardian advanced glazing products earn innovation awards

Guardian Industries’ newest advanced technology glazings that help achieve net zero buildings, SunGuard EC and SunGuard PVGU, utilizes Soladigm electrochromic technology to transition from clear to tinted on demand, controlling heat and glare in buildings, while providing greater comfort and natural daylight.

Guardian Industries’ SunGuard EC and SunGuard PVGU, the newest advanced technology glazings that help achieve net zero buildings, were both honoured with Product Innovation Awards (PIAs) from Architectural Products Magazine in the Building Envelope category.
“We are seeing a greater emphasis on LEED and the ability of commercial projects to not only save, but create, energy,” said Chris Dolan, director of Commercial Glass Marketing. “Guardian is committed to delivering advanced glass solutions that give architects and building owners a competitive edge. We’re honoured that for the second consecutive year, the judges identified Guardian as an innovator in the industry.”
Guardian SunGuard EC utilizes Soladigm electrochromic technology to transition from clear to tinted on demand, controlling heat and glare in buildings, while providing greater comfort and natural daylight. SunGuard EC enables changes in visible light transmittance and solar heat gain to significantly reduce heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) energy usage in commercial buildings, particularly during peak load times.
SunGuard PVGU combines Pythagoras Solar photovoltaic technology with SunGuard advanced architectural glass to create the world’s first energy-generating window simultaneously offering energy efficiency, power generation and high transparency. This advanced building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) solution replaces standard vision glass or skylights with a transparent glass product that converts direct sunlight into energy, helping architects and building owners looking for solutions to achieve net zero buildings.
These products enable designers to use more glass while still meeting or exceeding building energy codes and improving occupant comfort.
“Building on the success of last year’s inaugural program, our second edition of the awards proves commercial building manufacturers are committed to, and are working arduously toward, delivering more sustainable products, as well as products that deliver better performance, life and affordability,” said Jim Crockett, Architectural Products editorial director.
Architectural Products is a leading publication for the architectural and design (A&D) community. The Architectural Products PIAs determine and honour innovation in the development and refinement of buildings-related products that range the gamut from cladding systems to interior finishes, judged by a group of 50 independent industry professionals.
