7 January 1999: The largest producer of plate glass in Central and Eastern Europe, Glavunion Teplice AS, will likely see output reaching Kcs 8.3 billion this year, with sales and production maintaining a growth dynamic approaching 10%, according to a recent press report. Glavunion is comprised of five plants and companies Vitrablok AS (glass brick production), Splintex Czech (automobile glass) and Glavostav (construction glass). Some 19 companies distribute the group“s products in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. Glavunion“s majority shareholder is Belgium-based Glaverbel Group, with a 99.98% stake. According to Glavunion chairman Stepan Popovic, the Belgian company supported investments of Kcs 7 billion, greatly improving the company“s technological resources. Productivity measured as a ratio of man-hours to revenues grew this year by 3.4% and is commensurable with the productivity of any glass producer on the world market. About three-fourths of this year“s production has been designated for export. Next year Glavunion will be operating under the name Glaverbel Czech AS, the report said. The company now intends to unify the image and presentation of its subsidiaries.
