7 January 1999: Belgian glass company Glaverbel said it and Dutch chemicals group Akzo Nobel acquired a 24% stake each in Dutch paints and flat glass distributor Eijkelkamp Beheer NV. Glaverbel spokeswoman Marie-Ange Dhondt said that the Eijkelkamp family would retain the remaining 52% in the company, which has a workforce of 140 and 1997 turnover of 53 million guilders (US$ 28.51 million). She said Goor-based Eijkelkamp, which also produces insulation glazing, was a profitable company with eight branches in the Netherlands but declined to give any financial details of the deal. “It will improve the balance of our commercial and industrial presence in the Netherlands,” Dhondt said. Glaverbel will acquire its stake through its 100% subsidiary Glaverfin BV. The deal is still subject to approval of the European Commission, which has one month to put forward any objections or observations.
