Glasswerks Inc. and German glass manufacturer Arnold Glas are partnering to be the exclusive North American fabricator of Ornilux Bird Protection Glass. Ornilux uses a special, UV reflective, patterned coating that is virtually transparent to the human eye but is visible to birds, thus helping prevent bird collisions with windows.
“Since its introduction to North America in 2010, it has been our goal to make Ornilux more available to our customers here. Our partnership with Glasswerks is a critical step,” said Lisa Welch, market development, Arnold Glas N.A., in a release. “Advocacy efforts of organizations like the American Bird Conservancy, Audubon and FLAP have encouraged many cities to tackle this issue through implementation of bird-friendly design guidelines and regulations. Additionally, recognition by USGBC has been achieved with LEED Pilot Credit 55: Bird Collision Deterrence.”
