Glasstorm Studio, based in Tain, Scotland“s oldest royal burgh, has only four members of staff, but has become the supplier of bespoke bottles for a collectors“ edition of William Grant & Sons“ world famous malt whisky. Each bottle will be individually hand made to contain 50-year-old Glenfiddich single malt whisky, which will cost GBP 10,000 each. The firm will supply 50 bottles a year for the next eight years until all 450 of the rare bottles have been released. Founder of the tiny highland company, Brodie Nairn, said the contract was fantastic news for his company. We are just a small company so to be dealing with a big business like William Grant and Sons and to be associated with one of their most prestigious bottles of whisky is fantastic for us. And it is not a short-term thing. This work will go on for several years. Glasstorm, which manufactures a range of glass products for local and national markets, was set up five years ago by art school graduates Brodie Nairn and Nichola Burns. Thanks to this contract for the bespoke whisky bottle, Glasstorm is now a part of a very select group of suppliers. Glasstorm“s business plan includes a drive to become an arts destination encompassing workshops and gallery space, while allowing it to expand into new markets, also providing a design consultancy service. These company aims, said Nairn, had vital support from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), adding that: For our market we need to ensure that the service we provide is top quality in every respect. The help we“ve received from HIE has been invaluable in ensuring that our business knowledge, marketing and customer service matches the quality of our products.
