Glass for Europe welcomes update of EU Industrial Strategy

The European Commission released an update of the EU Industrial Strategy, firstly published in March 2020, just before the explosion of the COVID19 pandemic. The strategy, which sets a plan for how EU’s industry could lead the twin green and digital transitions while remaining competitive, needed to be updated to take advantage of the experience gained during the last year.

“The revised EU industrial strategy does convey invigorated industrial ambitions, which is welcome,” said Bertrand Cazes, Secretary General of Glass for Europe. “The willingness to anticipate changes and boost sustainable competitiveness along the transition toward climate neutrality will require a dedicated set of policy measures fit for each industry.”

Europe needs its industry for the transition and the EU industrial strategy gives hope to sectors producing decarbonisation-enabling materials, such as flat glass, to be able to recover from the economic crisis. “Strong of the experience gathered when developing the flat glass 2050 vision, Glass for Europe stands ready to support the Commission’s work to co-create a transition pathway for our ecosystem,” concluded Bertrand Cazes.
