9 April 1998: In 1996 North American demand for glass fibre was 54% of world demand (US$ 9 billion). North American demand is predicted to grow at 2.7% annually to reach a value of US$ 6 billion by 2001. US demand is expected to increase by 2.6% annually to reach 2.9 million tonnes by 2001 valued at US$ 5.4 billion. Reports predict that consumption of glass fibre will grow more rapidly than that of glass wool since the building and car industries prefer light, resistant and anti-corrosive materials.
