General Motors has named Gentex Corporation, a US supplier of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors to the worldwide automotive industry, Supplier of the Year for 1999. The award was presented recently at a ceremony in Munich, Germany. Gentex supplies GM with Night Vision Safety(TM) (NVS(R)) Mirrors, which automatically darken to reduce glare from the headlamps of vehicles approaching from the rear. “This is the fourth time we“ve received this award, and its significance grows each year,” said Gentex executive vice president Kenneth La Grand. “Automatic-dimming rearview mirrors are becoming an important electronic module around the world, and General Motors leads this trend. To be recognized as one of their premiere suppliers is an incredible honor.” GM“s Supplier of the Year awards program is in its eighth consecutive year and is given annually to GM“s best global suppliers in recognition of their performance during the previous calendar year. Award winners are selected by a global team of executives from purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and logistics, who base their decisions of supplier performance in quality, service, technology and price. This year General Motors honored 181 suppliers from 22 countries around the world.
