The US automotive mirror technology business Gentex has said it has begun shipping interior automatic-dimming mirrors to South Korea for the Ssangyong Motor Company“s Musso and new Korando models, which are manufactured and marketed in Korea. In the Korean market, Gentex boasts sales to every Korean vehicle manufacturer. The mirrors are shipped to Schefenacker Poong Jeong, which in turn supplies mirror systems to Ssangyong. Schefenacker Poong Jeong has been an exclusive Gentex partner since 1993. “Our Asian sales are currently growing at approximately 80% a year, and we see this trend continuing for the next several years,” said Gentex executive vice president Ken La Grand. According to Gentex, its automatic-dimming rear-view mirrors can be found on nearly 15% of vehicles sold domestically in Korea. The company has launched seven new mirror programs in Korea in the last two years, and its mirrors can be found on vehicles in most segments of the market. Shipments to Korea in 2000 exceeded 120,000 units.
