20 May 1999: Japanese production of sheet glass rose 6.9% in February to 2.06 million boxes last year, according to the Flat Glass Manufacturers Association of Japan. Although production increased for the third consecutive month, shipments fell 3.4% to 2.22 million boxes, marking the 20th month of declines in a row. Inventory, meanwhile, stood at 4.58 million boxes at the end of February, down 15.1%, continuing the steady decline that began in June 1998. One box is equivalent to approximately 47 kg of sheet glass.
