The whole process plant procurement and implementation of an 800 tonnes per day float glass plant, to be set up by Companhia Brasileira de Vidros Planos (CBVP), a subsidiary of the industrial concern Grupo Cornélio Brennand, has been entrusted to the French specialized engineering company, Fives Stein.

An 800 tonnes per day float glass plant will be set up by Companhia Brasileira de Vidros Planos (CBVP), a subsidiary of the industrial concern Grupo Cornélio Brennand. The whole process plant procurement and implementation is entrusted to the French specialized engineering company, Fives Stein.
Grupo Cornélio Brennand is an industrial group operating in renewable energies and in large-scale real estate projects. Its float glass subsidiary, CBVP, is now building with Fives Stein the most modern float glass plant in Brazil.
The new float glass plant is designed for a nominal production of 800 metric tonnes per day and will produce glass for both the architectural and automotive markets. Fives Stein will deliver and integrate the complete glass manufacturing process, starting from batch plant to cutting line and glass handling systems.
The equipment will incorporate the most recent technologies for high glass quality, yield and energy-efficiency. One of the distinctive features of the new plant, resulting from the common concern of CBVP and Fives Stein to minimize their environmental impact, is the use of a recently developed melting and fining technology, the L.E.M.® (Low Energy Melter), a result of Fives Stein’s R&D activities, which reduces the furnace energy consumption and the plant greenhouse gas emissions by 20%.
Fives Stein will also provide the start-up, process training and technical assistance services for the successful entry of CBVP into this competitive market.
The glass plant will be constructed north of Recife, in the state of Pernambuco. It will be the first float glass plant in north-eastern Brazil, the fastest growing region in the country. The start-up of the facility is scheduled for mid 2013.
Fives Stein is an engineering company operating in the steel and glass industries, a subsidiary of the Fives global industrial engineering group. Fives designs and supplies process equipment, production lines and turnkey plants for the world’s largest industrial groups in the aluminium, steel, glass, automotive & logistics, cement, energy and sugar markets.
Within the Fives group, the glass division supplies key processes and equipment encompassing both float and patterned applications, with a strong focus in the photovoltaic segments alongside with the more traditional segments of container glass, fibreglass, glassware and other specialty glass products.
Cornélio Brennand Group, throughout its more than 90 years of existence became a symbol of business success. It is focused in continued expansion of its activities, creating jobs with social and environmental responsibility.
The group owns companies that operate on different segments such as the electricity generation through renewable sources (Atiaia Energia) and real estate (Iron House), with their newest companies under expansion: Companhia Brasileira de Vidros Planos (CBVP) and Companhia Brasileira de Vidros Automotivos (CBVA).
